Subject: Consolidation
I have two gmail accounts.  I want to consolidate them into the newest
email address and eventually delete the older email address.  How do I
do it?

Larry

Loiselle,

First you need to get your emails from the old account to the new one,
and then you can delete the old one. There are two ways to do this:

1.
- set up Mail Fetcher in the new account to automatically pull emails
from your old account:
   http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=21288
- you can export your contacts from the old account and import them to
the new one:
   export: https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=24911&topic=12877
   import: https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=8301&topic=12877
- unfortunately you cannot transfer your chat logs, labels and
filters, you will have to recreate them in your new account

If you encounter any problems with mail fetcher, go to this group and
post your question:

Questions about contacts are to be posted here:
http://groups.google.com/group/Gmail-Help-Chats-and-Contacts-en/topics

2. using IMAP - this will retain the labels to some extent:
First download the emails from the old account to Outlook/Thunderbird/
something similar. Labels will appear as folders in Outlook. Then you
have to connect your new account to Outlook too (using IMAP again),
and you can copy the folders from the old account to the new account.

to delete a gmail account:
- Settings --> Accounts --> Google account settings
- new page opens
- click on “My products - Edit”
- choose “Close account and delete all services and info associated
with it”
NOTE: all your emails will be deleted for ever, your username (and its
dot-variants) will not be available ever again, and all other services
associated with this username (Google Docs, Blogger etc.) will also be
deleted.
